A New Chapter for LTO Network: Transition to BASE and a DAO-Driven Future

Announcement Published on: Jul 17, 2025 Last updated: Jul 17, 2025

Hey LTOnauts,

Over the past months, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to shape a sustainable and meaningful future for the LTO Network. After much deliberation, it’s become clear that continuing as a Layer 1 blockchain simply isn't economically viable in the long run. That’s why we’ve made a pivotal decision: LTO will transition from its own Layer 1 to BASE. BASE is an Ethereum L2 built by Coinbase, where we already have solid infrastructure through EQTY.

This strategic move brings significant changes—some exciting, some challenging—but all necessary for LTO’s next evolution.

Why BASE?

BASE provides the scale, security, and support that make it a natural home for LTO. Since EQTY is already operating on BASE, the switch creates synergy between our projects while allowing us to focus on what makes LTO truly unique: Ownables and the Private Layer.

What’s Changing?

Focus on Core Strengths

We’re narrowing our scope to the most innovative and distinctive features of the LTO ecosystem:

  • Drop LTO as a Layer 1 and move Ownables to BASE
  • Continue development on:
  • EQTY
  • Ownables (SDK, oBridge, oBuilder)
  • Universal Wallet
  • Relay Service
  • Sunset all other services
  • Adapt the Universal Wallet to work as an Ethereum-compatible wallet
  • Modify the Ownables SDK to function as dApp

ERC-20 Token Swap

We’re introducing a new ERC-20 token to represent LTO on BASE. The token is used as a fee and burned for anchoring private layer events onto BASE.

  • Smart contract is deployed after private layer migration is complete
  • No new tokens will be minted—this is a 1:1 swap
  • Swap period will last approx 2/3 months (to be determined)
  • After that, unclaimed tokens are lost

The short swap window is intentional — we aim to carry over an active, engaged community. This transition is a fresh start, not a passive legacy project.

Details on how to bridge and swap your LTO tokens will be provided soon. Please stay alert and be ready.

Transition to a Community DAO

We're investigating the possibilities to transition to a community DAO. We are currently in talk with LTO community members to be part of the DAO board—as we believe true decentralization means giving the project fully to its community.

As part of this transition, I will be seeking a successor to follow me up as CEO of LTO Network.

In Summary

LTO is not ending—it’s evolving. By focusing on what makes us unique, aligning with BASE, and embracing community ownership, we’re building a leaner, more impactful LTO for the future.

TL;DR Highlights:

  • LTO moves to BASE (no more Layer 1)
  • Focus on Ownables and Private Layer
  • New ERC-20 token: 2/3-month swap window
  • Possible DAO-run future with full open-source transition

Thank you to everyone who’s been on this journey so far. Now it’s time for a new generation to shape what LTO becomes.

Onward,
